About Barley

From origins of Contemporary Dance and Physical Theatre, Barley has cultivated 3 decades of teaching movement to professionals, students and non-dancers . Since completing her M.A in1995, specialising in choreography, she found an increasing curiosity in Yoga and Mindfulness. Yoga became a deep source of nourishment, injury prevention and provided wonderful sense of ease in the body. Keen to share her discoveries of 20yrs of yoga practice, including learning from many teachers worldwide, she completed her training at The Jasmine Trust with a British Wheel of Yoga Level 4 Diploma. She now has over 1000 hours of training from teachers such as Donna Farhi, James Knight, Mimi Kuo Deemer, Norman Blair and has made a number of visits to deepen her practice to Swami Rama’s Sadaka Gramma, an Ashram in India frequented over last 15 years.

Having moved from an established yoga business in the midlands, Barley brought her unique style to Norwich in 2018, quickly building up a new community of yogis who enjoy her relaxed and good humoured style of teaching with regular weekly classes and one off special workshops. Barley’s friendly, playful accessible sessions explore an enlivening and calming combination of classes that will set you up for the week and help manage daily stresses. Modifications are offered to help those that need it, and space given to the more experienced who want to develop their practice. Barley also offers Day Retreats and Workshops in a variety of styles throughout the year including Hatha, Yin Yoga, Gentle Somatic Yoga, Restorative, Meditation, Vinyasa, Chair Yoga, Yoga-Dance, Sound Healing, Children’s Yoga, Contemporary Dance and Electric Prana Beat Nights; a unique Dance experience to really free your form! And coming soon Qigong (teacher training in progress)

Barley finds continuous inspiration from the principal there is “a universe in every seed “ exploring the body from the inside out, inspired by the practice of both traditional Hatha and Daoist Yoga perspectives to the neuroscientific approach of Gentle Somatic Yoga, a modern way to suit the western way of life and encourage us all to keep moving in some way no matter what war-wounds we have. The classes are an invitation to explore ways to build freedom, resilience, courage and kindness within ourselves, and reflect this back out into the world.
